01 How does CoHost measure consumption data?
Consumption Data pulls engagement metrics directly from Apple Podcasts and Spotify, the two platforms that report how much of each episode listeners actually play. CoHost surfaces that engagement in one view, so you see how long people stay and where they drop off without logging into each platform separately.
02 What does "consumption rate" actually mean?
Consumption rate is the share of an episode the average listener hears, not the number of people who downloaded it. 1000 downloads with a 40% consumption rate means people are pressing play but dropping early. A high consumption rate means your show is holding attention, which is the engagement signal leadership cares about.
03 Can I see consumption for a single episode and for the whole show?
Yes. With CoHost you can analyze consumption on a per episode basis or for the entire show overall. Measure by episode to find the exact point where attention drops off across episodes and topics to see which formats hold listeners and which lose them. Measure by show-level to get a consumption rate you can track over time as a health score of your entire podcast's engagement.
04 How does consumption data prove ROI beyond download counts?
Downloads count the listener just playing the episode. Consumption proves the listener was actually engaged. Reporting "listeners finish most of every episode" is a stronger story in a budget review than "downloads are up." Procore used Consumption Rate to learn which topics and formats resonated, then built around what their audience actually listened to.
05 Do I have to switch podcast hosts to get Consumption Data?
Yes, our Consumption Data feature is only available to users who use our Hosting product. At the moment, our Analytics Prefix doesn't offer Consumption Data. Our team will migrate your podcast to CoHost for free. No downtime, no data loss, and no interruptions.
